Competitive Gymnastics
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics is the most popular and well known to the public of all the gymnastics disciplines. It is an incredibly challenging sport, demanding strength, power, flexibility, agility, courage, and a combination of technical precision and artistic creativity. When these elements are mastered, the performances appear almost effortless and are riveting to watch.
Events
The competitive program of women’s artistic gymnastics includes the vaulting table, the uneven bars, the beam, and the floor.
HHGC Competitive Gymnastics Program
The Women’s Competitive Program at HHGC is designed to give gymnasts the opportunity to reach their full potential in a competitive environment and is based on the principles of inclusion and personal achievement. It is for gymnasts who have the ability and desire to train and compete at a higher level. HHGC is a member and operates under the jurisdiction of Gymnastics Ontario.
Competitive groups are divided into 3 main categories: Invitational, Pre-competitive or Provincial level. Currently, we have 97 gymnasts ranging in age from 4 – 16 years old and train from 4 – 20 hours per week. This program is year round with a two week break at the beginning of July.
Head Coach
Our Head Coach is Xhosa Baker, a former national level gymnast who has been part of HHGC for over 14 years.
How To Join
Coach Xhosa is constantly scouting gymnasts in our recreational program to see if they have the ability to join the competitive program. If so, she will contact the gymnast and parents to discuss this opportunity. HHGC holds Try Outs for all our Competitive Programs each May and is open to everyone. Please note that the Competitive Program is a Full Year Committment running July to June each year. Training during the summer months is during the daytime and transfers over to evening and weekends starting Sept.
If you are interested in obtaining a try-out for our competitive program, please contact Xhosa or Barb Cameron in the main office.
